Ahoy John;
I don't like the idea of using insulators on my standing rigging, They have allways looked like just somthing else that could go wrong. I have had them on previous boats I have owned and I never had one fail.
I have just recently installed an SSB radio on my new old boat and discovered an antenna that just slips on the back stay. It is called the Gam split backstay antenna and available from Defender. Here is the url
http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|344|295760|320775&id=332511
It is working fine for me. Fair Winds
