Dear all,
I'm outfitting/updating a 26 ft longkeeled GRP double-ender and am in
the process of selecting a heater (which the previous owner didn't
have). Having looked closely at different solutions (forced air /
hydronic / kerosene wick / alcohol etc.), e-mailed several manufacturers
and done quite extensive pre-purchase research, I gravitate towards a
low-tech, low-amp solution, possibly a Refleks vaporizing pot diesel
heater with a water coil to radiators (62 MS)
However, both the Refleks people and almost all other manufacturers of
heaters based on the same principle say the heaters don't tolerate a
contant heeling angle of more than 10-15 degrees. Some of these
manufacturers don't recommend any heeling angle at all, while one seems
to accept up to 20 degrees.
Thought I'd ask if there are any Refleks owners on this list, or someone
who uses a heater based on the same principle. I'd be interested in
hearing your view of the heeling angle issue and how these or similar
stoves work in your sailboats.
Best regards,
Mats Broberg
