Easy answerl. We NEED them.
The ships that "discovered" these islands (ignoring entirely the fact that
they were already populated by human beings) made allowances for their lack
of information. Like putting their launch in the water to survey inshore
anchorages before venturing there with the mother ship. And then using that
same launch to take sufficient sounding so that the ship's navigator could
complete a chart.
Much easier to have the chart in the first place.
