We have a sailboat with the Moorings and they have on our boat a
copy of the VIRGIN ANCHORAGES by Nancy & SIMON Scott.
The Moorings sends a copy of the Cruising Guide To The Virgin
Islands by Nancy & Simon Scott with a map from them to use with the
Cruising Guide. This map has areas marked in red which are off
limits to the charter vessel from The Moorings.
We take with us Maptech's Chart Kit for the Virgin Island and P.R.
Region 10, and used this in conjunction with the BVI map found on
board.
Most of the boats have a GPS/Chart Plotter; a few just have GPS.
The latest you should get into a bay for moorings is 3:00 PM. Even
though it's the low season, if you choose to pick up a mooring ball
or anchor, it fills up fast. You may want to dive down and check
the line under the buoy to see if it is chaffed. A few people have
mentioned that the lines are not well maintained and you don't want
to break loose during the night. You can also keep the GPS on and
have the anchor alarm set.
I have only done this when the wind is really blowing.
The sailing is real easy and everything is within sight.
