I've sold some of those kinds of things on eBay. Especially good for
old upscale horse magazines, Home Power (which for some reason people
will buy in hard copy even when available on disc from Home Power
themselves for cheaper, and some Sail and Cruising World. That's the
only way of know of to make money and it takes time and is NOT easy.
I really didn't make as much money as it cost me in time.

I've also gotten rid of various old magazines through FreeCycle. I've
found this good for such things as bunk beds, old computers, National
Geographics, Chronicle of the Horse (which is a weekly), and clothing
that is in good condition but doesn't fit anyone anymore (which is a
drug on the market at yard sales). Stuff that's too heavy to ship.

Clothing and stuff that no one wants, I give to the Salvation Army. A
woman's shelter would also be good.

The thing that I like to do with books, especially as we had boxes and
boxes of books that my husband and I used when we were teaching school
(middle and high school) - reference books, text books, teachers
editions, etc., was to find a way to sent them to places like Belize
and St. Thomas. I gave the Belize books to some folks who were going
down there on a work project so the recipients wouldn't have to pay
duty and I wouldn't have to pay as much postage.

And I shipped the other books to the sister of a workmate who was a
counselor in the Virgin Island school system. That was a bit more
expensive to do because it was farther to ship. I shipped almost 50
boxes of books altogether. The PO had one lady who dealt with me who
    was doing weight training.

Otherwise for books, the SSCA has a book project that you might think
    about.
