I suppose some of what has been discussed with others in this thread has
carried over to our conversation. My concerns were the historical validity
of the printed reports and the shameful attempts of the owner's son to blame
the Coast Guard for his father's predicament.
I do think it's somewhat curious that many sailors get wrapped up in the
minutae of detail in Junger's work. Seems he's being held to a somewhat
higher standard than other writers of history...every one of which slants
the story to reflect his or her own views.
