The owner was not given a choice. He was ordered off the boat by the
USCG. The women having called a "mayday" w/o his knowledge, the USCG
dispatched a helicopter. Once on the scene they ordered him off as they
did not intend to come back a second time. I forget the exact laws here,
but had he disregarded the order he would have faced legal penalties
whenever he next reached port.
