In a message dated 03/12/2005 19:47:58 GMT Standard Time,
     writes:

don't know. I'm not very good on sailing terminology but..

There is a foil for each sail that has a slot in it and when we put on
the sails for the season, we pull the edge (luff?) up through the slot
with the halyard, and then the sail is wrapped around the foil and
that's the last we use the halyard until we take them down in the
fall. In the cockpit we have lines that unfurl the sails and furl
    them back up.

    grandma Rosalie

ok that was perfectly understandable and correct BUT you are using the
halyards all the time the sails are hoisted

    regards

    David
