Judy,
Thank you Judy for your thoughtful response. You clearly have the real world
experience and perspective of a second boat owner who has been there and
done.
Not dealing with teak is of great convenience. Though I must say I own my
high school and college employment to bright work. Many happy hours in a
sunny, still air harbor sanding and varnishing. Oh yes and the chrome polish
and brass polish.
The waterproof bulkheads are interesting. I met Louk Wijsen and learned
first hand about his bring his sailboat 800 miles off the coast of
California to San Francisco. A whale slapped him. When he was 200 miles off
shore it really got ruff. The boat was broken from deck down to a through
hull for the head. All the bulkheads were broken free from the hull. They
think from the amount of damage the whale was really mad.
The things I do not like:
1. Center cockpit. Have always preferred aft cockpit boats; but guess I
will eventually get used to the center cockpit.>>> The only things I
understand that are negative about center cockpits are looking at the sails,
looking up putting a kink in the neck. Also the amount of freeboard that the
raised center cockpit becomes wind area. The wheel on the Amel looks like it
is almost inside; I wonder if I would miss the sense of sailing out in the
open. Several of the boat I am looking at are center cockpit.
The large windows look like they would be venerable to a wave breaking them
out.
Rob
