Beneteau initially produced the First series of fast, lightweight cruising boats but near enough a class to be used for competitive racing. They were somewhat cramped and uncomfortable for family cruising. The Oceanis series were produced as a more comfortable family cruising boat particularly suited to the Mediterranean. They were not designed for extensive ocean passages.

They have proved to be very comfortable for circumnavigation and long distance cruising provided not too much is expected of them. I cannot see any reason why they should not be suitable for trade wind sailing as long as hurricanes are avoided.

    Cheers
