I'd keep the log (Walker's Log?). In the event that your GPS or knot log fail you've got a
spare. I realize that it takes up valuable space for a "probably never use" problem but
I still carry a sextant and reduction tables (and as an old, and experienced sea-dog)
and use paper charts. If I loose all electrical power I can still find my way home or
where I am. Remember the prudent mariner never relies on one piece of information
in their quest to konw where they are, where they are going, and how long it will take.
Besides, I've heard they're great fish magnets. :)
Fair winds and pleasant seas.
