We pay cash for local medical treatments and medicines when outside US. We
have had very rare need of medical care outside US, but what little we have
required has been extremely inexpensive compared to costs at home. For
example, friend broke his leg in the BVI about 5 years ago. Total cost
including x-ray, doctor, cast & pain med was less than $200. We do not
carry any medical insurance that would provide coverage outside US. When we
leave for extended cruising next spring, we will cancel our current US
stateside medical insurance policy as it will be useless.

I'm sure this is a common concern, but what do you do about medical
insurance and treatment when outside US waters?? I have just begun
researching.
