Well, when you want a waterproof keyboard in your cockpit my 2cts
worth of opinion suggests you wave pc-flexibility goodbye and choose a
solidstate, waterproof chartplotter like Simrad/Raymarine/Garmin and
have either the words "C-map" or "Maptech" or "Garmin" written in your
    epitaph... :)

In my own planned setup I hold on to this pc-flexibility and give up
on 100% reliability (is there such animal?). I plan this second 15"
screen (sheltered behind lexan) in the "darkest" corner in my doghouse
so I can see my own position and other ships onscreen when steering
and I am prepared to restrain myself to an expendable trackball only
IF the need arises. Keyboard entry will be solely done at the chart
    table.
