    The Garmin protocol hasn't been cracked as far as I know. People
    have been trying to for years.
    That being the case it's not possible to upload your maps into the
    Garmin Plotter. When you really choose the G182C you'll probably be
    convicted for life to buy Garmin Maps... :)

    For managing your waypoints you'll need a "database-like"
    application (like as you say excel which may be mis-used but that
    lacks the upload/download-functionality using the NMEA protocol).
    I hear GarTrip works very well for this purpose.
