if it can be of any help..
I've had hours of the best of times playing around with this:

looking for ports, coastal situations etc. on satellite images
(though some of them are a bit outdated, I noticed).
Just takes a very small softw installation and a streaming connection.
I'm going sailing next week untill early september in the Split and
Kornati area, Croatia.
The satellite pictures already gave me a good idea of what to expect
regarding landfalls.
