I'd like some views in this group about the following.
I'm trying to make up my mind considering my cutter stay.
To be precise it isn't a cutterstay but a second forestay that is
mounted say a yard behind the forestay and about 10 inches below the
forestay-mount in the masttop. Till now I use a non furled jib on it.
On the forestay I have a furled genoa.
Re the second forestay I'm thinking of a second large jib on a furler.
Together with two poles this makes the downwind courses very easy.
There is one disadvantadge: when in 8+ bft I don't really want to roll
out a small area of my jib. Pro's tell me it'll kill my jib eventually
and there's the risk of furling-line breaking etc. So the question is:
where do I hoist my existing, very strong stormjib.
I've heard of stormjibs that can be hoisted "over" the furled jib.
Maybe I can have my stormjib altered so it can be hoisted over the
furled jib. That would combine the best of two worlds.
Please feel free to express any experience / advice / additions.
TIA, Len
