I agree with the comments about storage. In a boat that is to be comfortable
both underway on a passage and also for extended times on the hook, storage
    is essential.
     There are other comprimises however.

On trap to watch out for is creating a boat that is very comfortable when
sitting still but hard to live in underway.
Beware of thinking you need lots of 'room' or 'space', it ain't so. What you
need for a comfy sea boat is one that takes care of you and that you can
take care of, and that is not the same thing as one with 'lots of space'.
Be careful where you put your bunks. They eat up lots of potential storage
room and may become unlivable in anything but a mild climate and dead flat
    calm.
It is better to have a galley that is a bit cramped but usable than it is to
have one that is spacious and of little use underway.
Remember that weight at the ends of the boat is very unwise.
Be carful of putting things on deck, they get in the way at the worst times
and will someday disappear for one reason or another.

One thing that is always nice if it can be managed and you have the water is
a sit down shower in the head. On a small boat, this can be a problem, but
with careful thought can nearly always be managed. And it sure makes things
more comfy to wash the salt off, have a nice meal, listen to the SW, and
watch the sun go down with a nice glass of something while the boat rolls
    along!

We are animals after all, don't forget our animal needs, food, water,
hygine, etc. It is suprising how many people have boats that cannot handle a
passage well primarly because they neglect these fundemental things.

The mindset of a good comfortable blue water cruising boat is one where you
don't have to brush your teeth in the same sink you wash your dishes in, if
you get my meaning, IE NOT camping out! -Ken
