Rick, like you, I have followed the monovision alternative for
years...first with contacts, presently with Lasik surgery. It works
perfectly for me. Glasses, goggles, and their various alternatives
were a non-starter. The will become useless the moment you need them
the most, when the weather gets snotty. Contacts are much better, but
as you've pointed out, the environment makes them a bit rough on the
eyes, and carrying sufficient replacements can be a problem.
Lasik worked...for me.
Unfortunately, Lasik did not work for my wife. She had her surgery a
month after mine, and for whatever reasons it didn't work. She's back
to glasses.
The docs will tell you before surgery - there's no guarantees.
