My wife had this problem before our cruise. She got the laser eye surgery.
    Money well spent.

Subject: [world-cruising] Eye wear at sea?

I've been searching, looking for a way to solve the problem for some
time now and have been unable to find something that "fits" what I
want or would like to have. When I broached the problem with my
doctor in the past, he has been unable to suggest something that
works. Before I go back to the doctor again, I thought I'd check with
the list to see if anyone has solved the "problem."

The "problem" is that my wife and I both wear glasses; largely for
reading. I wear soft contacts (disposable) for about two weeks (24/7)
and then throw them away. They work well for me. My wife doesn't wear
contacts, just glasses but she has about three (or more) pairs spread
between work and various places at home. At sea, there will be times
when there will be spray, drizzle, and driving rain as well as bright
sun. In these conditions I don't think contacts would work too well.
I think salt buildup and irritation would be a problem not to mention
the delicate matter of replacing them at sea in not too great
    conditions.

What we need is something that is breathable so that they don't fog.
They need to be secure enough that they won't fall off and over the
side at the worst time and yet not so tight that they give one a
headache. They need to fit will enough so that they don't get wet on
the inside and need to be wiped off constantly. I remember seeing
basketball players use something that looked like goggles but were
relatively small and, from memory, relatively frameless. Small is
good so that we don't end up with faces of one color and "goggle
eyes" that are white as sheets so a prescription diving mask kind of
thing wouldn't quite work but might be something to consider for
    those _very_ rough times.

Anyone out there know of a product that we could check out that might
fit the bill? Anyone out there found something that works for them
aside from the obvious? We could go with just regular glasses
(several pairs) but that presents its own set of problems with
sunglasses vs regular lenses or both at the same time or prescription
sunglass lenses and several pairs of each for backup.

Also, what have you done to get your eyes tested at scheduled
intervals? Flying back to our home doctors might not (likely will
not) be an option. The quality of service in out-of-the-way places
might not be good. What has worked for you?

    TIA

    Rick
