The issue is safety, that pilot lite goes out you have a bilge full of
propane and in a small boat heeling hard and pounding to windward it is
likely to go out. I have heard they have to be level but I could be
wrong about that. They use them on catamarans where they can contain the
area where the fridge is and have an overboard drain. Coupled with no
heel they work well, I believe they are often found on Geminis.
