Affordability, I suppose, varies a lot depending on the customer. In my
book, I'd like to find a world cruiser under 100K, which is easy to do if
shopping for a monohull. In fact it's not difficult too difficult to find
something under 50k in a monohull. My experience suggests the very bottom of the
multihull market in this regard is the low 100's. If I'm wrong, please educate
me, I'm no expert. The only multihulls that get down around this price tag
are 10 year old (nothing wrong with that) Gemini's (are they really blue water
capable)? So please, seriously, educate me as to what cats in the 100k
range are really blue water capable? am I wrong about the Gemini's?

Personally I fell in love with a Manta 42 Mk II at a boat show last year...
and have wanted a cat ever since, but I keep having to remind myself that I
can't afford one (new or used). This is one of those situations I'd LOVE to
    be proven wrong.

You could look at a Lagoon 42 an ex charter one should be around that price
though there are not that many around now in charter - having sailed and
renovated one i can say she is a very underrated cat fast to windward and close
winded too and easy to sail as well. The Lagoon 37 too would be worth a look
but they seem to be very much sought after so the prices are on the high
side. I am not a fan of Geminis and not my idea of a blue water cat but i know at
least one has done a transatlantic so the boat is capable just not with me on
     board :(

I too was in exactly the same dilemma having fallen in love with the Lagoon
42 and living aboard one while i renovated it for the American lady owner i
am buying a 46 foot Beneteau - but then i have had Bennies for over 25 years
and know the boats very well that said i hope that this will be a stop gap
boat until i can find a nice Lagoon 47 or 470 in a few years time yes, i wanted
a cat but common sense said i had to look at the value for money aspect and i
got a lot more boat going down the monohull route.

    regards

    David
