Good anchorages are the key to cruising in a cat. Typically most boats (monos and cats) anchor out and you dinghy ashore. Even better, but it costs you, some harbours will have mooring balls where you can park your cat.
Alternately, check out the charter companies where you plan on cruising. Cats are very popular for curising and many of the the chartering companies have slips for their cats (Sunsail in the BVI's for example). You maybe able to get a slip there, or you could consider putting your cat into charter just for the free slip (you'll be sailing it most of the time anyway).
Lastly, when it's time to tie up the boat for a while you can get her hauled in a cheap place and keep her ashore. Trinidad, the Azores, etc lots of places.
Sorry Peter, I don't know of any cheap slips, moorings or haulouts in Uruguay :)

Dwight briefly mentioned finding marina space - I'd like to add - *none* of the marinas I've been in have had a slip where a large (35'+) cat would fit........
Before owning my present boat (trawler) I strongly considered in buying a cat, but local Marinas (Uruguay) will charge double for berth space. I can see this is the same story practically all over the nautical world.
