Joel Abrams, who's the honcho of (less-than)Accuweather is the driving
force behind this. If he can get government convinced that the money WE
taxpayers shell out to pay for NOAA should provide data ONLY to
commercial vendors and not the taxpayers, your weather forecast and all
info on current temperatures, tide tables, etc. will change.
Your forecast on the nightly news will become pay-per-view.
Joel wants the world to pay for the generation of the data, and for him
to have an exclusive franchise to sell it back to the people who
already paid for it.
Anybody see a problem here? (That is, if you're not Joel.)
