Let me correct myself, I do intend to learn to sail only on the inside
passage and only to Alaska after gaining the much needed experience. And
THEN maybe a trip down the coast and eventually to Mexico if the boat is
capable.

Mexico to Alaska is pretty "blue water" and not what I am talking about. My
recommendation to learn to sail on a small boat is for coastal waters
