    Hi George,

Before we can give you answers you'll have to answer some questions

Where are you and where are you planning to sail (probably the same place but it could be two different places)?
    - salt water, fresh, lake, river, ocean, northerly with cold weather, east coast, west coast, etc

How much sailing experience do you have?
    - never been on a boat, a few years, many years, only day sailed, only sailed on the local river, chartered in the BVI's, etc

What are your long term sailing goals
    - well we know you want to cross the atlantic :) (I did that last June. It was so calm you could have floated across in a bathtub)

How much do you want to spend?
    - make that how much can you afford to spend and look for a boat 1/2 that price

How many are there of you?
-1, couple, family, pets, friends, etc

    Are you handy?
    - if no then you should have lots of disposable money, buy a new boat, or you should consider chartering instead of buying.

Do you want to buy your final boat (never recommended) or will you consider trading up as you learn more about what kind of sailboat you will eventually want?

Answer all these questions and your perfect boat will drop in your lap (hopefully).

We are currently looking for our FIRST sail boat. We aren't ready to head
for the Azores just yet, so we are considering a boat that will give us a
good foundation from which to begin our future in world sailing. We'll move
    up from this point.

Are there any boats to stay away from?

We are looking at the Hunter line in about the late nineties, 30 ft range as
our first boat, are these good boats?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Take care,
    Gregory david Stempel
