Wanted, at least one and preferably two or more responsible people.

The world-cruising list is now about two and a half years old. Graham
and I have been co-owners along with Paul Hannah who started the list
and then left us shortly after the list began, to go cruising. The
last two and a half years have been ones that have been both
pleasurable and tough at times but we have learned a lot too. We've
seen the list grow from about a half dozen or so on that first day
who were tired of the spam of the old list to now nearly 600 members.
In all that time, I don't think there were any spammers that got
through our net and reached the list. There were a couple of
questionable ones but for the most part, we've been spam free for two
and a half years. We've even been largely "civil" to each other for
most of the time and that has been most appreciated by us and, I
think, the vast majority of the membership. All things considered, it
has been quite a positive experience.

Now, it's time for Graham and I to take a break. Both of us are
finding less and less time to manage the list and make the decisions
that must be made. We're trying to run businesses and get things done
so that _we_ can go cruising. Thus we have a need to ask a few of
you, the list membership, to step up and become co-owners with us and
eventually take over the task completely. While only one person could
do the job under the right circumstances, two or more work much
better and the work load is able to be spread out so that one doesn't
    get overloaded.

Your physical location, or gender, is _not_ important. I'm on the
West coast of the U.S. and Graham is in Australia. While the time
zones have conspired to make me the primary moderator, Graham has
done his share and has been there to back me up whenever it has been
necessary and vice versa. There is no necessity for one co-owner,
all, or any to be a U.S. resident or citizen. To be perfectly honest,
we'd like to see at least one new co-owner be from outside the U.S.
although that also is not required. We would just like the list to be
able to continue an eclectic viewpoint and not have the list be a
"U.S. only" kind of group. A person in the general Europe or Africa
areas, a person in the Americas (N, S, Central), and a person in the
general NZ/Australia/Asia region would be good. I've always hoped
that the list would encompass sailing from South and Central America,
Europe, Africa, Australia, Canada, Asia and all those points that are
less frequented in addition to those that are most frequented. So
far, we've only touched on some of those but those have been very
    much welcomed.

When we started, we had to learn how to work the system as we came to
problems and events. None of us had been list owners or moderators
before. As new co-owners, you would not have to do quite that. We are
available to initiate the transition and help you get through the
rough spots and bring you up to speed. We can train you and help make
    your life easier.

The obvious question now is: what happens if no one volunteers? We
hope that doesn't happen because we would have to either 1) open the
list so that everyone could join and then immediately post
unmoderated and that means spammers galore (like the old list) and
flamers, everyone would have to monitor their bounce status
themselves and reactivate themselves when they notice they are not
getting posts or, 2) delete the list entirely. At present, we know of
    no other options.

We need one or more people to volunteer to take the helm for awhile.
When you volunteer, send your volunteer status to:
. That way, both Graham and I get
the posts and we can confer between ourselves and with the volunteers
most easily and finally select the people best able to continue on.
It's a great opportunity for those that are retired and are looking
for something to do that is boating/cruising related and for those
that are new to boating/cruising and looking for information as well
as those in between who know something about what they are talking
about or want to put their stamp on a service to the boating/cruising
    community.
