That's certainly understandable!! A lot of US Citizens fear litigation! It seems someone always wants to blame someone for what is often an accident. And of course, the Legislature is 95% lawyers who have a reason to create work for their brethren on the "outside". (IMHO)

Sorry about my suggestion to try Boat/US -- I forgot they only cover US locations.

    Sincerely,

well, I am from Europe, so I looked here first, the company I mentioned
is one of the largest yacht-insurance brokers with a very Latin (the
ancient language, not Spanish ;)) sounding name. German company,
      worldwide active, US outlet.

I never had a car insurance, beside the legally required ones, as I
thought, with so many cars in the family I rather buy a new one every
few years instead paying insurance, but a boat is a little more
expensive... yes I do have fire for the house, health and life, but they
      are not that expensive

Well I hoped to get some figures how much other people pay, just in % of
insured value for a rough estimation.

Many sailors try to cover locally, this is very advisable for Europeans
sailing to US as the surcharge for coverage in US waters is much higher
than for any other place on this world (maybe the hurricanes in Florida
and the fact our insurance companies seem to fear US legislature). But
you can not do this in South America or Asia.

      Peter
