Rick,
We would like a copy of your attachments, too. Please send to .
We have just started seriously considering our communication needs so
this thread is very timely. There is an article on the same subject
at http://www.takehersailing.com/
My main concern at this time is getting good weather information. Any
good sources on receiving weather faxes?
The comment about the cost of the sat phone vs. SSB was interesting,
but is the break even point the only consideration? Are there things
that you can do with SSB that can't be done with a sat phone and vice
versa? It seems like the SSB is currently the primary means of
communicating with other cruisers when out of VHF range. And if you
have your ham license you can link through to land-based family in an
emergency.
There are a lot of options and the technology is changing daily.
Thanks, Rick for starting this conversation.
