    Jon,

    There no dumb questions.
Can it be done? Probably yes.
Done without effecting much? Probably no.

A _lot_ of things would likely change. She was designed to be a
certain way. Changing that in a drastic way will change the design
and the expected/desired result. _Before_ you do something like this,
spend a little money and consult a naval architect. S/he should be
able to answer your questions for a little before you try to buy and
rebuild for a lot and likely get something that won't do what you
want and be unsaleable (and maybe unsailable) afterwards. You might
get lucky by not going to a naval architect and just doing it but it
isn't something I would want to try at all and certainly not without
    asking the experts.

If you do ask the experts, I hope you let us know what the person
told you. I for one would be interested.

    That's my $.02 worth.

    Rick
