Please excuse the whatever ignorance exists such that I ask this question...
Is it practical to change the keel design on a boat? Say for example that I find the "perfect" good old boat (as in 20-25 years old), except is happens to have a full keel that won't sail towards windward worth a damn... Could someone with reasonable funds refit it with a fin/skeg-rudder or such and improve it's windward perforance? or is this something that is intricately tied to the design and modifing one part is going to through the balance between hull/sail/rig compeltley out of whack?
Thanks,
Jon
