I'm thinking about that old pressure cooker that I had
again. Seems like there was some kind of a bar or
something that worked with the screw knob on top and
this thing seems like it could be moved around to some
flanges. The combination may have beenwhat screwed it
down to the pot. I'm not sure of the name. It could
have been the same name of the one that you have but
it's probably a lot older and might not be made
anymore. I wonder why the newer ones don't have the
clamp lids? Seemed like a good thing at the time. Are
the newer ones safer? I thought the old one was good
    and safe.

I guess it is time to start looking at cook books or
else we're just going to have to start writing our own
on note cards or something. I thought I had a book by
Annie Hill but can't find it. Maybe I loaned it to
    someone years ago.

I have a Magefesa pressure cooker that has the two
    short handles. It
does not have the screw clamp for the lid; rather, the
    lid has a series
of flanges so that one sets the lid down in the
    matching cut outs and
rotates it. Most of the new PC do not have the clamp
    lid. The Magefesa
rated high in tests, and is much less expensive than
    other brands.

The Magefesa is a spring pressure vavle (not the
    weight) and has two
other over-pressure protectors. Pressure can be quick
    released by means
of a valve by one of the handles.

I purchased mine off the web, just do a search for
    Magefesa. It is 6 qt,
cost $99 USD. IT tends to be taller with a smaller
    diameter than others;
could be an issue for canning, but I love the height
    in less than calm
    weather.

Lorna J. Sass has written pressure cooker cookbooks.
    I have her "Great
Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure" and have never
    turned out a bad
    recipe.
