Jason, it sounds like you already know in your heart she isn't for you, and
your head is catching up now, too. <gg> Our boat is 43' and although that
means bigger sails and bigger equipment and therefore perhaps a little
harder to sail physically, it also means plenty of storage space and water
tanks and relaxing space and working space, plenty of space to have other
yachties aboard comfortably for meals etc ... if we had bought her for just
the two of us, we'd probably have bought smaller, but we bought her for a
family of four (kids are adult now, so back down to two) and I'm glad we
didn't get smaller.
On the other hand, we have met as well as read about families who travel on
much smaller boats and seem quite happy to be doing so. If I were
singlehanding, I know I would buy a much smaller boat.
As my husband said earlier to me, horses for courses. <gg>
