Yes stainless are stronger, but aluminum is strong enough. PS did a
study and they said you only had to install 2 of the three
attachments. He didn't want the corrosion possibilities.

What was done, at least in some of the boats was that the mast
interior was filled with foam. Some friends with the same mfg. boat
were going to redo the interior of the mast and they decided once they
began to do it, that it was better to leave it alone. They do rattle
a bit sometimes, but mostly it is the external lines and halyards that
cause a problem.
In any case, the boat is 26 years old.
