steps were aluminum. He says don't drill any farther than just
through the mast. He said he thought our cables were enclosed in
conduit, but they were not. Be careful about getting aluminum dust on
your shoes. It's slippery. He fell down the companionway because the
dust got on the steps and he slipped. (not while working up the mast,
but later).
