Hi all.
I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction for the
following info / advice ?
How can you assess the suitability of large area of
portlights / 'glazed' areas in a hull / superstructure. ?
I see many, for example, steel hulls with large expanses of glazed
areas , I would presume that the integrity is dictated by the
strength of the material used and it's locating mechanism ?... is
there any rule of thumb or practical assessment on the suitabiity
and strength of the fitment / material used ?.. and is it possible
to determine if the openings (if non standard) would weaken the
design - I know this is asking a lot lol... :-) ... but, for
example, would I be correct in assuming that the lack of integral
stiffening in a sheet material area would tend to indicate a non
critical structure ..?
Many thanks all.
