    Hi Matthew,

That's a great idea which I should have mentioned (memory getting bad here).

Last year in Cuba we met a couple of young guys and their dads doing just that. They had bought a 40 footer (I forget the make) for about $40K. After spending about $10K fixing her up they planned on sailing her to Europe where they were sure they would get $90K for her.

This summer Bill and I sailed a Nauticat that would sell for around $80K in the US. She sold for over $100K in Europe.

So Lynn, get to know boats, buy one cheap in the states, sail across the atlantic in june, sail around Europe and the Med, sell the boat for enough to cover your expenses and more, fly back home and start over again.

    simple.

It's a shame, and ultimately perhaps a tragedy, that it is considered
impolite for Americans to discuss politics in nearly every setting these
days. That said, I will stay away from the subject and just point out one
possible benefit to the strength of the euro against the dollar: if you have
a bit of capital and the right skills, you might find a profitable business
in importing boats for resale in the EU. Now, of course, we can have a long
impolitic discussion of the VAT . . .. Just an idea to keep you on the
water which might be worth some exploration.
