Lynn,
I've noticed the same things recently (last few years
especially) and have become quite concerned also. As
we get closer to that fixed income, I see fewer and
fewer possibilities unless we win the lottery. I don't
want to cruise the U.S. I live here. I want to
experience other cultures and see how other people
live. I want to experience Greece and the greek
islands, Italy, Monaco, France, Spain, Portugal and
many, many others as well as the south pacific and
aother places as well. Cruising on a budget is one
thing but what it is beginning to look like we could
experience something akin to what Germany experienced
at the end of WWII when it is said that they needed a
wheelarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. I
wasn't there then but when I was it was between 2 and
3DM to the USD and they were talking about the "good
old days" when it was 4DM to the USD.
I don't have any answers except for maybe if you have
skills that can be used in other countries you may be
able to get someone in that country to sponsor you in.
Seems like that is what has been happening for years
now in the U.S. when companies sponsor in medical
professionals and computer "geeks" from places like
South Africa, the Philipines, and India. although now
days they just send the computer jobs there rather
than sponsor so many in here. It's still less
expensive for the company.
I'll be watching for some ideas that I can use to make
it happen for us too. For many of us "normal" folks,
we be seeing or may have already seen our retirement
dreams sinking with the USD.
