For what it's worth, in his Used Boat Notebook, John Kretschmer included the Gulfstar 50 in his list of the 10 best boats to sail around the world, after delivering one from Florida to Japan. He describes the voyage in his other book, Flirting with Mermaids.

I am thinking of buying a gulfstar 50 for cruising between Hawaii and
Tahiti. She was built in 1975 and used as a CSY rental in the Caribbean.
