Jason - Sorry to hear about your health problem, but glad the hear that it is
only causing you to fine tune rather than abandon The Dream. We went from a
28 foot Pearson Triton to a Cheoy Lee Offshore 41 ketch for our open ended
voyaging. The Triton was plenty seaworthy, but being a 60's Carl Alberg design, it
did not afford what we felt was enough room for long term liveaboard. We
chose Raven because of the ease of handling the ketch rig, the great amount of
cozy but usable space, and it's comfort in a seaway. After a heart attack and
back operation, ease of use was an issue for us. On most ketches and yawls, if
weather blows up quickly, you can instantly reef by dropping the main and
sailing jib & jigger with little loss of speed and much more comfortable motion. We
use chain and large ground tackle for piece of mind, so have gone to an
electric windlass. But that is the only addition we found necessary for health
concerns. Baba makes beautiful 30 and 35 footers. Cheoy Lee makes less expensive
Offshore 41, 38, and 31 sailboats, both sloops or ketches. Recently, I saw a
nice Baba 30 for $68,000 online and a Cheoy Lee 31 in Marshtown for $16,500.
