    The basic concept of the electric propulsion motor in an undewater pod is
    used now, in very large vessels. Elect outboards are not very efficient as
    motors, though, much less generators, and the props they use wouldn't do
    well for regen.
    If all you want is to produce power while sailing, wind generators are a
    much better solution, in my opinion. I have used a wind genny for quite a
    while, and other than mishapes from debries from shore during storms and
    lightning damage, I can report they work very well, much more cost effective
    than solar as long as there is some wind. At anchor, they are much better
    than prop regen.With my boat, I have no need for more power while "on the
    hook", but I do not have refers and use very efficient devices.-Ken
