Robert,
After one of the boat shows, I took my wife to meet with the rep of one of
the custom mattress companies that are always at the shows. He had samples
of all his products: foam, innerspring, pillow-top, etc. Linda lay down on
each, and chose a six-inch latex foam mattress. I ordered it with a hinge
in the middle (along its length), which allows me to fold it back and access
the lockers underneath.
It's "hospital-grade latex" ...whatever that means.
FWIW, the mattress got soaked in the driving rains of Hurricane Isabel last
year (I discovered a new leak!). We carried it on deck and let it dry in
the sun for a couple of days. No ill effects at all.
