Hi Joe,
Fla is a great source of excellent cruising boats - sometimes, what happens is people set sail from cities along the northern coast with the intention of living aboard and extended sailing. Along the way they discover cramped quarters, rough weather and all the other stuff that surprises people who haven't spent enough time preparing for their dream. Discovering what living on a boat is really like, the wife, husband or both will say, "That's not for me." and head home - or to what's left of it. This happens because some people who spend a week or 2 chartering in the Caribbean think living aboard won't be any different - IMO, it boils down to preparation, or specifically the lack of it. And ocassionally a wife will try it for her husband and find it's too much of a challenge.
In any case, that leaves the boat - sometimes expensive, well found, mini-yachts (<50' IMO) to be sold. They are often designed/built for short handed sailing and include many of lifes niceities. Depending on the prevailing market they can remain at the brokers slip for a long time and deals can be had.
The same can happen in CA - I live on the East Coast and am not as aware of CA opportunities.
Good luck -
Sincerely,
Larry T

well, phase 1 of the 'plan :-) is completed, the UK health Service
has decided they will pay me 120k to retire at the tender age of 47
years (then an index linked pension at 50)... so phase 2 is to sell
one of the houses, we then intend to live in the US for a few months
whilst selecting the 'ideal'pp boat.
Any advice on cheapo accomodation in FL or CA for a few months in
early 2005 ?? .. where are the best places to look for the best
deals >? probably by the month is best ...??
many thanks
Joe.
