As I mentioned earlier, at one time, "auxiliary" engines in sailboats were
only used to get the boat between the dock and a place to hoist or strike
sails. That's what you're doing.
Many cruisers today are using their engines for other purposes. Note, for
example, that engines are required in the ICW, in the Panama Canal, etc.
Engines in many cruisers today are used to charge battery banks, cool
refrigerators, run watermakers, etc.

Absolutely nothing wrong with minimalist cruising, so long as one accepts
the sacrifices it entails. The Pardeys are great proponents of that
concept. They're also great people; I'm honored to have met them.
