Hello from a new member. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks,
    just thought I'd introduce myself.
I built a 38' cutter, launched in 1985. Haven't done much sailing in
the last 10 years, I'm just starting a total refit of my boat
("Frona") which has been sorely neglected for too long.
Our last cruise was from California to South Carolina, via Panama.
Since then I worked several years as a mate on a ferry, and for two
years I ran a 50' commercial shrimp trawler. (Something I always
wanted to do -- thank goodness I got that out of my system.)
Anyway, I've got six months off work(!) and am devoting it to my
sailboat. Had it trucked to my backyard, nice and handy -- no
excuses. Got a ton of work to do though.
Been sampling some of the posts on this list -- very entertaining
reading, glad I found this group.
Particularly enjoyed the "Cheap Mooring U.S. East Coast" thread, it
kind of made me examine my own desires and how I want to equip my
    boat this time around.
As a small contribution I will say that there are very few moorings
available in this area, (South Carolina, say from the St. Helena
Sound south to Daufuskie Island) not sure about Charleston. There
may be some moorings available on Hilton Head Island, but nothing is
    cheap on Hilton Head.
There are quite a few good places to anchor though, and its hard to
    beat free!
There are plenty of slips available, as I recall, slip fees are 4 or
5 dollars a foot, but I might be wrong about that.
Anyway, glad I found this group, I miss the cruising scene, good to
    be around like-minded people.
    Fair winds to all,
    Keith
