Based on actual measured data for a family of three, we figure that for
two of us the budget will be about $20k / year.
During three years of US West Coast cruising, while working full time I
generated an income of $X every month net after taxes, employer insurance
deductions etc - real take home pay.
Of that income, $Y went to pay some fixed debts, and $1400/month went to
pay college tuition for #2 daughter. That left $2000/month that we lived
on. This was for three people, living in California - frequently in
marinas - because we had to maintain cellular phone connections for me to
generate the above mentioned income.
I figure that the costs will go down with one less mouth to feed, and
costs should go down substantially if we are further afield. Thus my
price of $2k/month is probably generous. By how much I don't know.
Hope this helps
