Actually, Joe, this is a significant problem in Westsails...one which your
surveyor should spend some time investigating. Every one of the components
you mention above can rot and compress. I've personally seen Westsails with
deck failures in the area of the mast.
Plywood was the structural component of choice for decks 30 years ago, when
most Westsails were built. Today, builders use structural foam, which does
not absorb water or rot.
