    Len said,
    >I also owned several GRP (which stands for Glass Reinforced
    >Polyesther) boats in my 40 years of sailing and sailed the Atlantic
    >too. So that would make us equal in expertise and neither of us
    >should paternalize the other...

When you used the term GRP in your last post, I understood what you meant.
The amount of experience in this case doesn’t matter. In fact you may have
more offshore time then I do.

    >I just gave my 2 cts worth. Just offered my opinion in an "eager to
    >wrestle" tone as a contribution to the discussion that was started.

If you want to wrestle you should go to the gym. I only want to talk.

    >Never said there were no other materials to build boats. Just
    >indicated I preferred aluminum and above all: no more GRP for me,

In your last post you said, “For serious offshore sailing I think a grp boat
is not suited. I even think grp is no serious boat building
material” I take this statement to mean that you think fiberglass cannot be
used for serious boats. And I think that an offshore boat is a serious boat.
Did you want to say something else instead?

    >and guess what: I don't confuse my opinion with fact. This opinion
    >of mine is based on facts... I've had four GRP and three of 'm had
    >medium to big osmosis problems, the part of my message you didn't
    >choose to reflect on.

Len, I don’t have to guess, the facts in your statements are very clear, you
owned 4 boats and 3 had problems with osmosis. You have at least 40 years
experience with boats. Those are the facts and the only facts. Your
preference for steel is just your opinion based on your years of experience
and your skills. It is a very good choice for you, and I think that you
should stick with it and don’t let anybody talk you out of it.
    All the best,
    Robert Gainer
