Hello guys n gals. I hope you dont mind us taking your time again to
assist us with a difficult question. ???

    Here goes ....

We are UK citizens, we go to the USA and buy a beautiful Westsail
32 :-) .... we sail the Pacific and NZ for a few years... we decide
to 'visit' the UK in a year or two to see family and friends..

Ok, here's what I can find out so far (and the RYA (UK) were pretty
bloody useless, in a kind of spectacular way !)... ACCORDING TO uk
Customs and Excise notice 8 (UK) we can, apparantly, buy a boat in
the USA, sail the 'world' - (ie anything outside the 'EU') - and
visit the uk for up to 18 months anytime we want to ??.

Then, we suppose, the question is 'where' do we register the
boat ?.. is it important ?? if so - why ?... We presume we need a
port of registration for paperwork purposes, >??

We do not want a US registered name or flag on the boat. Sorry - no
intent to offend anyone, but we just don't.. we want a UK flag - red
E or St. G... only cos it allows other cruisers to see where we
originate :-) ... politics aside lol....

So, please group... where do we register the boat ??.. Caymen ? ..
Gib' ?? all we ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by, and
a British flag, and no VAT or TAX gripes :-) :-) .... we will sell
the boat - eventually,, back in the USA, so no probs there,...

    Anyone with similar experiences ?

    Joe n Jayne - UK
