Good call Valerie! Cruising with kids is great, and yours are at the
PERFECT ages...DON'T WAIT.
I was a cruising kid when I was 13, which was about 35 years ago. It was
wonderful. My #3 daughter has been a cruising kid since she was 13 and
she loves it. But don't wait until they are 16. At that age they have
sunk roots down into society and dislodging the plant can be fatal! My
brother was 16 and he jumped ship in Mexico and ran away back to the
States. Any of the sulky angry kids I have met have been in the 16-ish
slot. Start 'em at 13 and let them sink their roots into the cruising
society, not into the land-based rat race 'be cool like your peers' one.
see you out there.

PS: The right boat? Answer: The one that will get you out there
soonest. Our boat (Columbia 36) has a street value of $20-$25k, and we
have no qualms or regrets, nor indeed any two-foot-itis. Go small. Go
simple. But go now.
