Bob was given a folding bike for his birthday one year by our children
and he uses it a lot. Granted, we are most often in marinas so we
don't have to bring it ashore in the dinghy and we have a CSY44 which
    actually measures about 50 feet.

He rides to the grocery store, and he rides to the rental office to
get a rental car. Some places are too big for walking easily and yet
we don't want to take a cab. Some places have free bikes for people
to use and some places rent bikes. In those places where bikes are
used a lot, there are usually bike racks that you can lock your bike
    to.

I tried to ride his and it was just too big for me (it isn't quite
true that you never forget how to ride a bike) because I couldn't
reach the ground from the seat. So he got me a non-folding one which
I never used. He then bought a second hand folding one for about $25
and refurbished it, and I actually rode it some this past winter. It
is good exercise for me - the computer couch potato.

A scooter sounds like a good option.
